4-H STEM AmeriCorps   arrow

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a national network of service programs that receives federal funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). AmeriCorps consists of three primary programs (NCCC, VISTA, State and National) which places members in communities across the country to focus on a variety of issues including disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures.

The CSU Extension 4-H STEM AmeriCorps program is an AmeriCorps state program that places members in counties across Colorado to provide science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programming to local youth.

How do our AmeriCorps members serve their community?

Our 4-H STEM AmeriCorps members work closely with CSU Extension Denver 4-H staff and various community partners throughout the city and county of Denver to develop, strengthen, and deliver youth development programs emphasizing 4-H STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Members facilitate hand-ons, engaging activities in schools, recreation centers, and libraries to children and youth so that participants not only gain knowledge but also gain an interest in STEM as a potential career.

What are the benefits of serving as an AmeriCorps member?

  • AmeriCorps members receive a bi-weekly living allowance throughout their term of service, paid for by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS)
  • Upon successful completion of service, AmeriCorps members receive an educational award that can be used to pay existing student loans, future education expenses, or be used at other eligible institutions. For more information on how you could use your education award, please visit the CNCS Segal Award website
  • AmeriCorps members are able to build their professional network through their connections with community partners, fellow AmeriCorps members, and Extension staff
